Long QT syndrome
Definition:

The Long QT syndrome is a medical heart condition where the cardiac ventricles become repolarized for longer periods of time. This condition may lead to sudden fainting as well as sudden death due to the overexcited ventricles.


Treatment:

The condition is treated by arrhythmia suppression involving several medications to slow down adrenergic stimulation, among of which being potassium supplements, amd Mexiletine. Others meanwhile consider arrhythmia termination by the replacing it with an implantable cardioverter-defilibrillator.


Causes:

The Long QT syndrome is either genetic or drug-induced.
