Definition:
Polymorphic macular degeneration is a medical condition which is mostly found in adults due to polymorphism. It is the leading cause of central vision loss (blindness) in the United States today for those over the age of fifty years (de Jong PT (2006). "Age-related macular degeneration". N Engl J Med. 355 (14): 1474 – 1485).
Diagnosis:
Optical coherence tomography and Fluorescein angiography are used.
Treatment:
There is no known cure yet for Polymorphism Macular Degeneration but additional lighting and magnifiers can help in alleviating its symptoms.
Symptoms and Signs:
Common symptoms include blurry vision and the usual yellow deposits in the macula called drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and choroids.
Causes:
Polymorphism Macular Degeneration is often linked to polymorphic or building of deposits in the macula.
