Definition:
Pes planus is also popularly known as flat feet or fallen arches. This is a condition wherein the foot arch collapses making the entire sole of the foot becoming completely or nearly in contact to the ground. Having Pes planus also does not mean decreased in foot speed as it do not affect a person's response to Plantar reflex test.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis of Pes planus can be easily done by a podiatrist or a chiropodist even during personal consultation. At home, one can diagnose Pes planus by the "wet foot" test. The persone can do it by soaking the feet in water then stand on a dry surface or on a heavy paper. The feet should leave an impression of a dry area for the arch to test negative to Pes planus.
Treatment:
Treatment of Pes planus is appropriate if the patient complains of pain in foot or lower leg. Or can be if it affects the patient's knees or back. Treatment for Pes planus include using some helpful arch supports or orthotics, other exercises involving the foot which is recommended by the podiatrist or even foot gymnastics. Surgery can also provide a lasting relief to the patient but is seen only as a last choice. An artificial arch can be created through surgery and place in the sole but this is usually very expensive.

Symptoms of having Pes planus is having completely or almost completely flat sole touching the ground.
