Definition:

Rheumatism, also known as rheumatic disorder, is a general term encompassing medical problems affecting the bones, kidney, joints, skin, heart, and lungs. While rheumatism is used colloquially or in a historical context, the word no longer appears in strict medical or technical literature. To date, the word “rheumatism” does not apply to a recognized disorder in modern medicine. While the term covers a wide range of medical problems, it is most commonly used in reference to fibromyalgia syndrome and/or arthritis-like symptoms. However, it is important to note that rheumatism itself is neither a recognized disease nor a distinct entity.
