Definition:
X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency otherwise known as the common gamma chain is a sub type of the Severe combined immunodeficiency which is said to be a result of the mutation in the gene encoding the common gamma chain (?c) which is a protein that is said to be used by the receptors for interleukins IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15 and IL-21 which are in turn involved in the development and variance of the T and B cells. The symptoms and manifestation of the mutation of the said gene causes a non-functional interleukin signalling which may result to a failure of the immune system to develop and function inasmuch as there is low or none T cells and non-functioning B cells. X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency is said to be an inherited disorder through an X-linked recessive pattern.
