Achilles Tendinitis
Definition:

Achilles Tendinitis is inflammation ans irritation of the Achilles tendon usually resulting due to sudden increase in the intensity or frequency of exercise.


Diagnosis:

Physical examination for signs of inflammation along the tendon will be performed by the doctor as the patient stands on their toes. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan will provide a clearer computer image of the soft tissues, which make can confirm diagnosis for Achilles Tendonitis.


Treatment:

Treatment is often carried out by oral intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Rest, applying ice and elevation should be undertaken initially to reduce symptoms. Limitation of activities that probably could aggravated the inflammation.In cases when the aboved-mentioned treatment options aren't effective, surgery is performed to remove the inflamed tissue from the tendon.


Symptoms and Signs:

Dull ache or pain when pushing foot off the ground while walking or just plainly rising your toes. A crackling sound upon touching and moving the Achilles tendon. A mild lump in the area of the tendon. Stiffness that minimizes when tendon warms up. Tenderness and other cardinal signs of inflammation in the area usually over the Achilles tendon.


Causes:

The condition is often experienced during excessive flattening of the foot arch; putting much pressure on the Achilles tendon when walking; trauma as well as the development of infection in an area adjacent to the tendon are also considered as secondary factors.
