Definition:
Degenerative joint disease, also known as osteoarthritis, is the inflammation of the joints. It affects various joints such as the back, neck, knees, fingers, and hips. The disease occurs mostly people over the age of 45.
Treatment:
Treatment is done by prescribing NSAIDs to the patient to stop the inflammation. Patients are also advised to do regular exercise to strengthen the bone muscles as well as maintain proper posture. A calcium-enriched diet is also recommended.
Symptoms and Signs:
Among the symptoms of osteoarthritis are swelling joints, loss of joint flexibility and extreme joint discomfort.
Causes:
Joint deterioration is caused by the inflammation of the cartilage of the joints. The cartilage acts as cushion that allows the joints to move easily. It also protects the joints from friction.
