Definition:
Bordetella pertussis belongs to the genus Bordetella. It is a Gram-negative, aerobic coccobacillus which the main agent that causes whooping cough.
Diagnosis:
Nasopharyngeal swab is used for Gram stain, Bordet-Gengou growth plate with cephalosporin that shows mercury-drop colonies.
