Definition:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity is it classified as a neuro-behavioural developmental disorder which affects 5% of the world's population. It is usually acquired during childhood, and is distinguished by a constant pattern of distraction or hyperactivity and forgetfulness, poor inclination control or impulsivity, and being distracted and over the years it has been increasingly seen on adults. Children around 60% who have this disorder carries it as they grow.
Symptoms and Signs:
Common symptoms of ADHD:
distractibility
troubles in focusing and concentrating
short term memory loss
procrastination
troubles managing belongings and ideas
tardiness
being impulsive
executing plans weakly
Not all people with AHDH exhibit these symptoms some exhibit the symptoms but it does not affect the person's work or lifestyle. Symptoms do not become evident during childhood but it can become evident as they grow. In children with ADHD, hyperactivity is common but it disappears during adulthood but children continue to have troubles in focusing throughout their lives.
Causes:
Withdrawal from alcohol – causes hallucinations, insomnia, diaphoresis, and a depressed mood
Anxiety - include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cool and clammy skin, frontal headache, back pain, insomnia, and tremors
Dementia – patient may show a decrease in memory, attention span, problem-solving ability, and alertness
Withdrawal from drugs - include anxiety, abdominal cramps, diaphoresis, and anorexia
Hepatic encephalopathy - include drowsiness, stupor, fetor hepaticus, asterixis, and hyperreflexia
Hypersensitivity reaction - moderate to severe agitation appears
anaphylactic shock
Hypoxemia
Increased intracranial pressure (ICP)
Post-head trauma syndrome
Vitamin B6 deficiency
Classifications:
ADHD has been classified as a developmental disorder where in specific traits like impulse control notably delayed in growth when evaluated to the general population.
ADHD is also classified as a behavior disorder and a neurological disorder or a combination of this classification like neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioural disorders.
