Foodborne Illness
Definition:

Foodborne illnesses are any kind of illness associated with consumption of contaminated food. It is also known as food poisoning.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is done via observation of symptoms exhibited by the patient.


Treatment:

Foodborne illnesses can be treated with ensuring community sanitation measures as well as properly cooked food. Other medications are given to treat the symptoms of the illness.


Symptoms and Signs:

Foodborne illnesses usually show signs such as stomach pain, diarrhea, fever and chills.


Causes:

Disease causing bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli are the main sources of food-borne illnesses. Salmonella thrives in raw food such as sushi, while E. coli and Staphyloccocus come from unpasteurized milk. Spoiled food also causes food-borne illnesses.
