Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration
Definition:

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is a pathologic process involving degeneration of gray matter in the frontal lobe and anterior part of the temporal lobe of the cerebrum, with sparing of the parietal and occipital lobes.


Symptoms and Signs:

Some symptoms include: early decline in social interpersonal conduct ; early impairment in regulation of personal conduct ; early emotional blunting; and early loss of insight. Other common features are neglect of personal hygiene, disinhibition, mental rigidity, perseverative behaviors, voracious appetite and hyperorality.
