Gastric Erosion
Definition:

Gastric erosion is the inflammation of the stomach lining. It is a minor ulcer in the innermost part of the stomach. When left untreated, it becomes a gastric ulcer.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis can be done based on the symptoms shown by the patient, as well as by endoscopic procedures.


Treatment:

The treatment for gastric erosion includes regimens of proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole and esomeprazole to suppress acids, as well as an H2 receptor antagonist. Avoidance of acidic drinks such as tea, soft drinks and coffee are also advised.


Symptoms and Signs:

Among the symptoms of gastric erosion are frequent abdominal pain, stomach bleeding, weight loss, anemia, fatigue and black colored stool.


Causes:

The minor stomach ulcers are caused by intake of cortisone drugs such as aspirin and steroids, imbalance of enzymatic juices such as pepsin and other gastric acids.
