Definition:
Nasal Polyps are the soft and usually not cancerous or benign growth of polyps in the lining of the nose or the sinuses.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis includes examination of medical history and physical examination of the nasal passages, undergoing computerized tomography or CT Scan and Cystic Fibrosis Tests.
Treatment:
Treatment includes administration of corticosteroid nasal spray like the fluticasone, triamcinolone, flunisolide or mometasome and those oral corticosteroid, medicines for allergies like antihistamine and anti-fungal medications. In some cases surgery like polypectomy and endoscopic sinus surgery may be advised to treat nasal polyps.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms of the presence of Nasal Polyps includes the occurrence of runny nose, chronic sinus infections, stuffiness of the nose, headaches, diminishing sense of smell, snoring and headaches.
Causes:
Nasal Polyps is said to be cause by an ongoing inflammation which often results from viral or bacterial infection, allergies or due to the body's immune system response to fungus. The inflammation causes the blood vessels located in the lining and the sinus of the nose to be permeable which thereafter allows water to accumulate in the cells which eventually produced polyps.
