Neuroendocrime Carcinoma Of The Skin
Definition:

Neuroendocrime Carcinoma of the skin or the Merkel cell carcinoma, is a type of cancer that appears as a flesh colored or bluish red nodule on the skin, commonly in the face, head or neck.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through undergoing physical examination, biopsy, X-ray and the use of computerized tomography or CT Scan


Treatment:

Treatment includes surgery where the physician removes the tumor , undergoing radiation therapy, high energy X-rays at cancer cells, and chemotherapy


Symptoms and Signs:

The symptoms of Neuroendocrime Carcinoma of the skin includes the occurrence of a nodules on the skin which is normally not painful and harmless at first but is usually fast-growing. Such nodule may be flesh in color or bluish red and usually appears in the face, head and neck of the person.


Causes:

The cause of Neuroendocrime Carcinoma of the skin or Merkel Cell Carcinomas is not yet known though it is linked to the merkel cells which are located at the epidermis or the outermost layer of the skin. Another theory is that it may be caused by skin stem cells which becomes cancerous. Genetic abnormalities may also be the caused of the condition.
