Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Definition:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD for brevity, is a medical condition where there is are presence of conditions involving the liver of the person who does not drink or just drink a little. Liver scarring and liver damaging inflammation are the result of a type of NAFLD which is called th e Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis or NASH.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis includes Liver Function tests, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging or MRI, X-rays, CT Scan and a biopsy of the liver to know the extent of the condition Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.


Treatment:

Treatment includes exercise that focus more on loosing weight, diabetes and cholesterol control and avoidance of toxic substances such as alcohol.


Symptoms and Signs:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease symptoms includes fatigue, malaise, lack of appetite, sudden weight loss, weakness, nausea, pain in the upper right abdomen, yellowish skin color, lack of sex interest, itching in the hands and feet, swelling of the legs and feet, confusion and forgetfulness, encephalopathy and even liver failure.


Causes:

The cause of the Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is not yet known but it is linked to the metabolic syndrome which is usually manifest through obesity, hypertension and resistance to insulin.
