Definition:
Panic attack is an anxiety disorder that is often characterized by the sudden and intense fear that appears to have no reason and causes severe physical reactions.
Diagnosis:
To determine if one is suffering from panic attacks, several exams and tests including physical exam, psychological evaluation, and laboratory tests may be conducted.
Treatment:
The treatment for panic attacks are administration of medications such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors. serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors and benzodiazpines, and psychotherapy.
Symptoms and Signs:
Panic attack symptoms include unusual palpitation of the heart, trembling, chills, hyperventilation and nausea.
Causes:
It's not known what causes panic attacks or panic disorder. However, stress and genetics may play a role in its occurrence.
