Definition:
Urethral stricture is a medical condition where there is an abnormal narrowing of the urethra which is responsible for releasing the urine in the body.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through physical examination and undergoing tests such as urinary flow rate Post-void residual or PVR measurement, urinalysis, urine culture for possible infection and cystoscopy.
Treatment:
Treatment includes suprapubic catheter to help the bladder to drain trough the abdomen; dilation of the urethra is also advised and cystoscopic visual urethrotomy and urethroplasty may be performed to treat the medical condition.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms of the urethral stricture includes dysuria, urinating difficulty, spray of urine stream, decreased urine, pelvic pain,dark urine, lower abdominal pain, swelling of the penis, discharge from the urethra and urinary retention.
Causes:
It is said to be caused by an inflammation or scar tissue as a result of a surgery, injury or a disease.
