Definition:

An imperforate hymen refers to a partial or total closure of the hymen, the inner covering of the female genital area located inside the vulva. This is a congenital defect that occurred during the development of the fetus while the mother is pregnant. This condition can cause sterility and mild menstrual problems since menstrual flow passes through this area. But it can be treated by surgery once diagnosed.
