Iron poisoning is a disease brought about by excessive iron intake. This can be an effect of consuming abnormally high amounts of iron supplements,


Diagnosis:

The condition can be diagnosed by blood serum tests as well as the symptoms presented by the patient.


Treatment:

Prevention is the best way to treat the condition. Take only adequate amounts of iron supplements that are needed by the body. Severe cases require cleaning the blood of iron deposits using chelation therapy. When this fails, dialysis is the next step.

The symptoms of iron poisoning include abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, and eventual damage of the internal organs such as the liver and brain.


Causes:

Iron poisoning is caused by abnormal consumption of iron supplements. Iron supplements should only be taken to treat iron-deficiency anemia.
