Pyridoxine Deficiency
Definition:

Pyridoxine deficiency is also known as B6 deficiency.


Diagnosis:

A positive diagnosis test for pyridoxine deficiency can be made certain by measuring erythrocyte levels of aspartate aminotransferase and transketolase in serum.


Treatment:

Eating food enriched with vitamin B6 as well as taking in food supplements in the form of pills.


Symptoms and Signs:

Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) is a co-factor for glutamic acid decarboxylase, an enzyme that converts glutamate to GABA. Seizures may result from the simultaneous increase in the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, and decrease in inhibitory neurotransmitter or GABA as a result of the B6 deficiency.


Causes:

There are several causes to this condition: lack of pyridoxine in the diet, the use of the tuberculostatic medication isoniazid, grumpiness and irritability, Pyroluria,
