Rectal inflammation is a condition in which the lining of the rectum is inflamed. It is also referred to as proctitis.
Diagnosis:
The doctor takes down the patient's history of the condition and conducts a physical exam. Tests are also undertaken by the patient such as blood tests, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and STD screening.
Treatment:
The condition is usually caused by sexually transmitted diseases. Other causes may also include inflammatory bowel diseases, non-sexually transmitted infections, or a side effect of some medical treatments such as radiation therapy or antibiotics.
Symptoms and Signs:
The affected individual has frequent or continuous urge to relieve his or her bowel, bleeding or mucus discharge of the rectum, pain in the anus, rectum, or lower left abdomen, or frequent diarrhea in small amounts.
