Definition:
Vibrio Parahaemolyticus is a gram-negative bacteria that is usually found in brackish salt water, commonly associated with the gastrointestinal illnesses.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through CBC count, serum level tests, stool examination for blood and fecal leukocytes and coagulation tests. Imaging tests such as chest radiography and CT Scan may also be required to determine the presence of the medical condition and rule out other possibilities of the disease.
Treatment:
Treatment includes administration of antibiotics such as ampicilling and fluid replacement therapy.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms includes diarrhea, nausea, cramping, vomiting, fever and chills.
Causes:
It is caused by consuming raw shellfish especially oysters and exposing open wound to sea water.
