Definition:
Viral Gastroenteritis is the medical term that is used to refer to an intestinal infection that is usually caused by virus that is found on contaminated food and water.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through physical examination and review of symptoms and the medical history of the patient. Stool tests are also required to determine which virus caused the medical condition.
Treatment:
Treatment includes administration of antibiotic to restrain and lessen the bacteria. It may also include fluid replacement therapy to replace loss fluid in the body and administration of anti-diarrhea medicines such as loperamide.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms includes watery diarrhea, cramps in the abdomen, cramps, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches and fever.
Causes:
It is said to be caused by eating or drinking contaminated food and water or sharing kitchen utensils from a person that is infected. Among the virus that cause the illness are the rotavirus and norovirus.
