Definition:
Viral Meningitis is the medical condition whereby there is an inflammation of the meninges or the protective membranes covering the brain and the spinal cord caused by viruses.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through lumbar puncture and CSF analysis.
Treatment:
Treatment is made through administration of antibiotics and corticosteroids are also advised.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms of viral meningitis includes headaches, rigidity and pain in the neck, photophobia, phonophobia, delirium, irritability, seizures and swelling of the fontanelle.
Causes:
It is said to be caused by microorganism such as the Neisseria Meningitis and Streptococcus Pneumoniae.
