Wernicke's Encephalopathy
Definition:

Wernicke encephalopathy is a medical condition that is caused thiamine or vitamin B-1 deficiency.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through evaluation of medical history of patient and undergoing laboratory and radiographic tests, EEG and CT Scan.


Treatment:

Treatment includes stabilizing airways and ozygenation.


Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms includes mental confusion, ataxia, memory loss and confabulation.


Causes:

It is said to be caused by long term alcohol consumption, self-imposed starvation and malnutrition.
