Definition:
Central pontine myelinolysis is a neurological condition caused by damages incurred by the pons, the myelin sheath wherein the nerve cells in the brainstem are located.

The illness diagnosed by means of MRI.
Treatment:
There is no exact treatment for the condition; it can only be avoided by controlling hyponatremia correction. The correction should not go higher than 1mEq/L per hour.
Symptoms and Signs:
The symptoms commonly found in persons with the disease are sudden paraparesis, dysphagia, fainting spells and double vision. The person may experience sudden paralysis of the body, except for eye movement.
Causes:
The main cause of the illness is the fast correction of low sodium levels in the blood.
