Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis
Definition:

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is the hardening of the bony ligaments that are attached to one’s spine.


Diagnosis:

DISH can be diagnosed by physical examination as well as the symptoms presented by the patient.


Treatment:

Treatment for DISH mainly requires physical therapy to keep the joints strong and flexible, as well reduce the onset of calcification of the ligaments.


Symptoms and Signs:

People with dish often experience stiffness of the back, and neck. Swelling can also be found in the joints not located near the spine, including the heels, knees, ankles, elbows, shoulders, hands and hips.

There is no exact cause for the illness.
