Definition:
Discitis is the term used to describe the infection of the invertebral disc space causing severe back pain. Symptoms of the infection include stiffness and immobility of the spine to move. The exact causes for the disease are unknown, but studies show that it is linked with hematogenous seeding of certain harmful organisms. Discitis is treated with antibiotics and cast support for the back. it can as well be diagnosed by X-rays, CT scan and MRI.
