Definition:
Eosinophilic esophagitis is an inflammation of the esophagus due to allergic reaction. This illness is common among children but occurs in adults as well.
Diagnosis:
Endoscopy is the procedure conducted to diagnose the disease.
Treatment:
Treatment for eosinophilic esophagitis consists of removing offending food, steroid puffers, antihistamines, H2-receptor blockers and proton pump inhibitors to reduce stomach reflux and decrease the swelling.
Symptoms and Signs:
The symptoms of the disease include heartburn, chest pain and occasional dysphagia.
Causes:
The disease is still not well understood but some studies prove that it is caused by allergic reactions caused by certain foods and substances.
