Definition:
Intestinal flu, also known as viral gastroenteritis, is the inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a common illness that usually results to vomiting and diarrhea.
Diagnosis:
Intestinal flu can be diagnosed by examining the symptoms shown by the patient. Stool specimen tests and other laboratory testing can also be done.
Treatment:
Gastroenteritis can be treated by oral therapy in order not to lead to dehydration. Oral rehydration solutions can be performed at home.
Symptoms and Signs:
The symptoms of intestinal flu include headache, stomach ache and fever that may last for a week. Loose bowel movement may also occur.
Causes:
Intestinal flu is caused by a variety of reasons, such as rotaviruses, adenoviruses and astroviruses. It is, however, not caused by bacteria or parasites.
