Martin Bell syndrome, also known as fragile syndrome X, is a mental defect that involves learning disabilities and behavioral problems.


Diagnosis:

Martin-Bell syndrome is diagnosed by antenatal testing and DNA test.


Treatment:

Treatment of the disease is done by management of the symptoms. Special education programs can help patients with their learning disabilities, as well as constant emotional support from family and friends.


Symptoms and Signs:

Among the symptoms of Martin-Bell syndrome are hyperactivity, anxiety and mood swings, hyperextensible joints and attention deficit disorder. Some patients show flat feet and unusual facial features.


Causes:

The Martin-Bell syndrome is a caused by a faulty gene in the X chromosome. Boys are more prone to the disorder.
