Definition:
Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in the nasopharynx. This tumor blocks the passageways in that open the upper throat. This passage is also where the olfactory tubes open into the throat.
Diagnosis:
The cancer can be diagnosed by means of endoscopy and MRI.
Treatment:
Radiation therapy is an effective treatment for the cancer. Chemotherapy is sometimes used but they both give off side effects such as falling hair and weakness.
Symptoms and Signs:
Among the signs that a tumor has develop are a lump in the neck. Hearing difficulties are also evident. Occasional nosebleeds, ringing of ears and headaches can also be felt.
Causes:
There is no exact cause that led to the development of the cancer. However, eating too much salty foods increase the risk of having a tumor grow on one's nasopharynx. The Epstein-Barr virus can also make the person prone to acquiring the cancer.
