Definition:
Hay fever is a condition resulting from an allergic reaction to indoor or outdoor airborne allergens, such as dust mites, pollen, or pet dander.
Diagnosis:
The doctor assesses the patient's personal and family medical history including the signs and symptoms and their usual treatmetn. The doctor will also performs a physical examination to check for more to other causes of the signs and symptoms. The patient may also undergo a skin prick test and allergy blood test.
Treatment:
The condition may be treated with medications such as nasal and oral corticosteroids, antihistamines, decongestants, cromolyn sodium, leukotriene modifiers, nasal atropine, immunotherapy, and nasal lavage.
Symptoms and Signs:
Signs and symptoms may nclude a runny nose and nasal congestion, watery or itchy eyes, coughing, sneezing, sinus pressure and facial pain, decreased sense of smell or taste, and swollen, blue-colored skin below the eyes.
Causes:
The condition occurs when the patient's immune system starts producing allergy-causing antibodies causing a irritating reactions. It may sometimes be triggerd by seasonal or perennialallergens
