Definition:
Eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome or EMS is an incurable neurogical condition. Sometimes this conditon is fatal to some patients. It is flu-like condition that is associated to be triggered by ingestion or consumption of L-tryptophan supplements which are poorly produced. Like the regular eosinophilia, it can cause increase in the eosinophil granulocytes present in the patient's blood. There are new developments though, another explanation for EMS claims that it is brought about by the consumption of large amount of tryptophan. It leads to the production of the metabolites, which can interfere with the normal degradation of histamine. Also too much activity of histamine has been associated and related to blood eosinophilia and myalgia.
Diagnosis:
Eosinophilia is diagnosed using a very simple yet comprehensive blood test for eosinophilia in the bloodstream while presence of eosinophilia in the tissues sre often diagnosed by running and examination to tissue (relevant). Like a sample of a skin tissue are removed and then examined by a microscope.
Treatment:
Once a person is diagnosed to have the condition, doctors help establish the cause for the condition. Treatments are then designed to address the specific cause of the condition. Some drugs like the cortocosteroids may also be administered
Symptoms and Signs:
There are several symptoms of eosinophilia and often in involves those of the underlying condition. In example, an eosinophilia condition which is due to asthma manifest symptoms like wheezing and breathlessness. Parasitic infections also lead to fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or cough accompanied with rashes. Drug reactions also give rise to rashes, which often times occur right after taking drugs new to them. Some other symptoms of eosinophilia which are usually rare include enlargement of the lymph node, weight loss, sweating at night, other rashes in the skin, and sometimes a patient will feel numb with tingling because of nerve damage.
Causes:
Causes of eosinophilia may be traced back to a person's reaction a medication or because of a parasite that infected a specific part of the patient's body may it be the skin or blood.
