Definition:
Erythema multiforme is a skin disorder that is idiopathic or has unknown cause. But some experts said that this disease is cause by malfunction of the immune system due to infection or drug exposure that affects the skin and oral mucous membrane. It is a self-limiting skin disease, it means that the disease will just relieve without treatment. It will complicate to Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a life threatening skin disorder cause by drug allergic reaction.
Diagnosis:
It is diagnosed through physical appearance of the rash. Skin biopsy is also taken to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment:
The common cause of this disease is herpes simples bacterial infection and drugs reaction such as phenytoin an anti psychotic drug, barbiturates an emergency drugs, allopurinol for gout arthritis and penicillin an antibiotic.
Symptoms and Signs:
It is characterized by mildly itchy, pink-red blotches, with a pink-red ring around and a pale center and spreads from extremities to trunks. Common affected are young people and men are more prone than the female
Causes:
It is necessary to immediately stop or avoid the causative factor of this disease. It does not require any treatment, it well just clear up within 2 – 4 weeks. Anti-inflammatory drugs are useful to minimize or stop the inflammation process of the disease
