Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)
Definition:

Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD for brevity, is a term used to refer to that transmissible neurological disease found in deers and elks that usually results into small lesions in brains.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through examination of the brain stem, lymph nodes and tonsils under the microscope to determine the presence of the abnormal prion protein.


Treatment:

There is no known treatment for Chronic Wasting Disease but taking up antibiotics may be used to lessen the infections.


Symptoms and Signs:

Its symptoms includes symptoms of the mad cow disease, scrapie in sheeps and presence of loss of body conditions and behavioral abnormalities.


Causes:

It is said to be caused by the self -replicating abnormal form of a prion protein which attacks the central nervous system of the animal affected.
