Cradle Cap
Definition:

Cradle Cap otherwise known as the infant or neobnatal seborrhoeic dermatitis, the crusta lactea, milk crust, honey comb disease, is the medical condition usually seen in infants beginning 3 months of age that has usually yellowish, scaly and crusty skin rash that is usually seen in their scalp.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through physical examination of the infant's scalp.


Treatment:

Treatment includes application of oil in the affected scalp to soften the scales and may be brush away through the use of scalp. Application of petroleum jelly and application of sodium bicarbonate paste and the used of Ketaconazole shampoos and creams may be used to treat the medical condition.


Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms of Cradle Cap includes the presence of a yellowish and patchy skin rash in the infant's scalp.


Causes:

The exact cause of the medical condition is not yet determined but it is said to be linked to an infection, allergy and overactive sebacious glands. It may also be caused by a skin yeast named Pityrosporum Ovale.
