Definition:
Cryptococcal Meningits is a medical condition where there is an infection of the membranes that cover the brain and the spinal cord called the meninges.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through the use of a lumbar puncture or spinal tap test which involves the examination of the spinal or cerebrospinal fluids and blood testing.
Treatment:
Treatment for Cryptococcal Meningitis is made through the application of antifungal medications,the use of intravenous therapy with the use of amphotericin B and medications of fluconazole.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms includes fever, nausea,vomiting, stiffneck, photophobia, mental status change and hallucinations.
Causes:
Cryptococcal Meningitis said to be cause by cryptococcus neoformans which is usually found in soil.
