Definition:
Cryptorchidism is a medical condition where there is absence of one or both testes from the scotum of a male organ. It is the failure of the testes to move downward during the development of the fetus. It is a congenital absence or maldescent of the testes and associated with reduced infertility.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through physical examination of the male organ especially the testes. During pregnancy it may also be diagnosed through the use of imaging tests and devices such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.
Treatment:
Treatment includes surgery named as orchiopexy which is performed in infants whose testes have not descended, hormonal therapy and surgery is also used to treat the medical condition.
Symptoms and Signs:
Symptoms include the absence or maldescent of the testes in scrotum of the male organ.
Causes:
It is said to be caused by an idiopathic birth defect. It is also linked to hormonal abnormalities and due to chemical or endocrine disruptors during pregnancy.
