Cutaneous Diphtheria
Definition:

Cutaneous Diphtheria is a medical condition where there is an acute toxin mediated disease that is caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae which usually inhabits in the mucous membranes and skin of humans.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through toxigenicity testing using the Eleck test, polymerase chain reaction test., blood testing and biopsy.


Treatment:

Treatment includes administration of antitoxin, consultations and examination by a cardiologist and a neurologist to see any complications.


Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms includes fever, diarrhea and occurrence of skin lesions.


Causes:

Cutaneous Diphtheria is said to be caused by the Corynebacterium diphtheriae.
