Dacryocystitis
Definition:

Dacryocystitis is an infection of the nasolacrimal sac whereby there is pain and redness of the lower lid and epiphora.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through the use of blood test and aspirations.


Treatment:

Treatment includes administration of nasal decongestants, antibiotics and by undergoing aspiration and Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR.


Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms includes redness and swelling of lacrimal sact at medial canthus, fever, digital pressure over the lacrimal sac and tearing.


Causes:

Dacryocystitis is said to be caused by the nasolacrimal obstruction and associated with the condition named staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus penumonia and pseudomonas.
