Dental Caries
Definition:

Dental Caries is an disease that damage the structures of teeth and often results to tooth decay or cavities which causes tooth pain, tooth loss and infection.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is made through examination of the visible surface of the tooth and undergoing dental radiographs or by a dental explorer.


Treatment:

Treatment may include tooth reconstruction and tooth excision by dentist.


Symptoms and Signs:

Symptoms include carious lesions, decay, chalky appearance of white spot in the surface of the tooth which shows demineralization of the enamel, occurrence of cavity.


Causes:

Dental caries is said to be cause of acid producing bacteria like lactobacillus, streptococcus mutans and actinomyces and fermentable carbohydrates like sucrose and fructose.
