Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Definition:

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy is a type of neuropathic disorder usually common with person with diabetes mellitus and is caused by a diabetic microvascular injury which involves the small blood vessels that supply the nerves.


Diagnosis:

Diagnosis is mad through the use of blood tests and test to determine the sugar level of the patient.


Treatment:

Treatment includes administration of tricyclic antidepressants or TCA, Serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI, antiepileptic drugs and anti convulsants.


Symptoms and Signs:

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy includes numbness of the extrmities, decrease or loss of sensation to a part of the body, diarrhea, erectile dysfunction, impotence, drooping eyelid, changes in the vision, dizziness, burning sensations, speech impairment and muscle contractions.


Causes:

It is said to be caused by a diabetic microvascular injury involving the small blood vessels that supply the nerves of the body.
