Definition:
Dipylidum Caninum otherwise known as cucumber tapeworm or the double pore tapeworm is a cyclophyllid cestode that usually infects the organisms afflicted with fleas usually seen in canids and felinds. It is usually passed on through the host feces that are ingested by the flea which is ingested by another mamal.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is made through the blood testing and laboratory examination of feces to confirm the presence of the parasite and to rule out other medical conditions.
Treatment:
Treatment includes administration of niclosamide or praziquantel.
Symptoms and Signs:
If infected with the Dipylidum Caninum, the person will experience chronic diarrhea and feeling of restlessness.
Causes:
Infection is caused by the cucumber tapeworm itself.
