Definition:
Madelung’s disease, also known as Multiple Symmetrical Lipomatosis, is a rare metabolic disorder in which fatty masses grow around the back of the head, face, neck, arms and abdomen in a very specific distribution.
Diagnosis:
CT scans and MRI are used to find presence of the fatty masses.
Treatment:
Treatment is done by managing the present symptoms.
Symptoms and Signs:
Some of the noticeable symptoms of the disease are neurological problems, weakness, decreased sensory feelings, paresthesias as well as unusual sweating. Blood pressure show fluctuations.
Causes:
The disease can be brought about by alcoholism, menopausal effects or psychosomatic disorders.
