Tonsilitis
Definition:

Tonsilitis is defined as the inflammation of the tonsils in the throat.


Diagnosis:

To diagnose tonsillitis, physical examination and swab test is sufficient.


Treatment:

Tonsilitis may be treated by medications (antibiotics, erythromycin, pain medications), bed rest, and lots of fluid intake. Surgical tonsil removal may be resorted to if necessary.


Symptoms and Signs:

The following are the symptoms of this condition: severe sore throat, and pain when swallowing. In children, tonsilitis causes symptoms which include: red and swollen tonsils, fever, vomiting, enlarged lymph nodes, loss of appetite, and earache, among others.


Causes:

Tonsilitis may either be bacterial or viral. It is also considered as a complication for other diseases.
