Definition:
Transmissible mink encephalopathy is a degenerative brain disorder affecting mink (animals), but not humans.
Diagnosis:
This condition may be diagnosed through physical examination and assessment of the symptoms, blood tests, and other imaging tests.
Treatment:
There is no known treatment for transmissible mink encephalopathy.
Symptoms and Signs:
The symptoms of transmissible mink encephalopathy include behavioral changes, depression, lack of coordination, and/or an unsteady gait, involuntary jerking movements, unusual sensations, and confusion.
Causes:
Some researchers believe that this condition is caused by an abnormal version of a protein called a prion (proteinaceous infectious particle).
