Definition:
Bilious vomiting syndrome is a condition that affects dogs. The affected dogs vomit in response to bile-induced inflammation of their stomachs. This condition is also known as duodenal-gastric reflux or reflux gastritis syndrome.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is not needed since the dog is considered normal.
Treatment:
Treatment for this condition is simple – just feed the infected dog late at night. Helpful medications include antiemetics and H2 blockers.
Symptoms and Signs:
The most common symptom of dogs with this condition is vomiting early in the morning, even without eating the night before.
Causes:
When bile salts enter the dog’s body, it interferes with the gastric mucosal barrier. As a result, acid enters and irritates the stomach lining. This, in turn, causes gastritis. No other causes of the vomiting is found.
