Definition:
Bloat is the overstretching of the stomach due to excessive gas content, most commonly known as gastric dilatation-volvulus, gastric torsion and torsion. In dogs, excessive gas in stomach may cause twisting of the stomach locking the gas in. most breeds at risk are the deep-chested.
Treatment:
The immediate treatment is sphincter dysfunction between the stomach and esophagus as well as an outflow obstruction through the pylorus.
Symptoms and Signs:
There are symptoms, which are not noticeable like any other kind of distress. A dog might stand with discomfort and uncomfortable without any obvious reasons. Other symptoms include hypersalivation, breathing constraints, depression, weakness and abdomen distension. A high percentage of dogs with bloat suffer from cardiac arrhythmias or abnormal electrical heart activity.
Causes:
Bloating in dogs is caused by many factors, such as increased age, type of breed, stress, diet and overfeeding, having a narrow and deep chest as well as causes of gastrointestinal distress.
