Definition:
Addisonian pernicious anemia is a kind of megaloblastic anemia due to the lack of vitamin B-12.
Diagnosis:
The disease is diagnosed via full blood count tests, biopsies and gastroscopy to detect B-12 levels in the blood serum.
Treatment:
This anemia can be treated by regular intake of vitamin-B supplements.
Symptoms and Signs:
The symptoms of this kind of anemia do not immediately specify the onset of the disease. Cognitive impairment, fatigue, shortness of breath, jaundice, poor muscle tone and weakness are often the signs of the disease.
Causes:
The onset of this anemia is caused by impaired linking of vitamin B-12. This impairment is made when autoantibodies attack parietal cells which bind the said vitamin into the blood. Atrophic gastritis is the condition where this form of anemia originates.
